Scientist, Virologic and Infectious Disease | Theraclone Sciences | Seattle, WA

Theraclone Sciences, a privately-held biotechnology company based in Seattle, is focused on discovering and developing novel human therapeutic antibodies for the treatment of infectious disease, inflammation and autoimmune disorders. The company’s technology harnesses the power of the human immune system to generate target or pathogen-specific monoclonal antibodies, and uses in vitro memory B cell culture system to identify and rescue human antibodies of potential therapeutic value.

Scientist, Virologic and Infectious Disease

Theraclone Sciences is seeking a scientist with extensive research experience with in vitro virologic infection mechanistic studies and in vivo efficacy studies in animal models. Familiarity and experience with other infectious disease studies is highly desirable. This is an exciting opportunity to discover human antibodies against key pathogens using our state-of-the-art I-STARTM platform (Walker LM et al, 2009, Science, 326:285-9). You will design and implement functional and binding assays to identify antibody leads for therapeutic or vaccine-design development.

This new addition to our In Vitro Pharmacology Assay Development Group will collaborate closely with members of our Screening Group, and will be expected to be a hands-on expert in neutralization assay development and other assay methods for viruses of significant clinical impact such as influenza, HIV, CMV and rhinovirus. Experience with antibodies as anti-viral or anti-infectious agents is required. You should also have used immunologic assays to identify therapeutic or vaccine design candidates in vitro. You will be routinely operating automated lab equipments to develop assays in low-volume microplates and should therefore have aptitude for miniaturized assay manipulation. You will have the opportunity to study the novel lead candidates in animal models.

Qualification Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in virology or immunology or relevant biology discipline
  • 2 or more years of postdoctoral research experience
  • Good track record of publications in relevant research areas
  • Previous employment in biotech industry is desirable
  • Skilled in high volume reporting in Excel workbooks
  • Self-motivated, proactive and collaborative team member
  • Excellent in PowerPoint presentation and writing skills
